I've used it for years. It's as powerful as the Adobe products with as large a user database and with hundreds of add-ons if necessary. Now I'm using it on a Chromebook (!) using Crossover as a Windows emulator. I'm hoping it will operate as well as it has on my Windows computers.

Only works on Windows 7 SP1 or newer..
I have this on my home laptop and love it. I wanted to use this at work for creating images to use in procedure documents but, since my employer is stuck in 2002, tech-wise, we are running XP Pro. The page says that this is compatible with Windows XP, but the installer says "Windows 7 SP1 or newer is required." Just a heads-up.

what the heck!?!?.
I tried drawing on it and the only thing that will work right now is the expandable circle. No different colors. so my master peice: 1 black circle. I mean I didn't really care for Gimp2, but at least I could EVEN DRAW with it.
Pros: I can make circcles O. M. G.
The layout would be nice if it worked.
Cons: Everything except for the above.

A Powerful Yet Simple And Easy To Use Paint Program.
Anyone who wants a free powerful paint program that is simple and easy to use should give Paint.NET a try. I find it more powerful and easier to use that TheGimp. But some feel TheGimp is more like Photoshop. My advice is try both and see which is your favorite since both are free and both are open source.For those of you who just want basic editing features and don't like to install a lot of software might be better of going with an online service tool like Picnik.The only true drawbacks to Paint.NET is it needs for .NET Framework to be installed first to run as well as the fact the load up time can be rather slow. All and all it's a very good and feature rich paint program that's worth trying. Just remember you will need .NET Framework installed to use Paint.NET

This should be microsoft's original paint.
Paint.net is a great paint program, and really easy too use. The appearance is stylish with the 3.5.5 version, and it was also made simpler. You couldn't do much with paint (except the win 7 paint) which is why if you don't if you like photo editing, have win 7, and you're not that advanced at computing, this is definately for you. If you have a touchscreen computer though, Eg: Hp touchsmart like me :), you might find it a bit dissapointing that it doesn't have mutitouch like win 7 paint.

Paint.NET Digital Artist Basics.
I found Paint.NET amazingly simple and fun to use. I don't use it very much for art anymore but it still comes in handy with Photo Manips & the diverse effects options.
Pros: Compatible with most file types
Easy setup
Easy to understand
Multitudes of Effects and Photo Adjustment Options
Easy to use Layering Window
Cons: Shading is limited to Cell or by using a gradient
Area Selection requires a steady hand or a solid color
Difficult to use with Tablet

I'm having GREAT difficulties finding where you actually "edit" your photos.
Pros: It looks awesome.
Cons: it won't let you do any editing.
